This bachelor thesis deals with the research question of how the definition of social work of the German Professional Association of Social Work (DBSH) can be implemented in the field of prostitution: What practical, social, and political tasks result from the definition for this field, and which challenges social work faces in the field of prostitution? The basics and history of the profession of social work as well as the definition of the DBSH are explained. In addition, the situation of women in prostitution, the issue of human trafficking and German prostitution legislation are discussed. With regard to the profession of social work in the field of prostitution, the history of the profession of social work in this field as well as the practical, social, and political tasks and current challenges are explained. As a result, it can be stated that the social work profession is already successfully implementing the definition of the DBSH in its practical work, while the requirements of the definition to promote social change, social development and social cohesion as well as the principles of social work mentioned in the definition, have not yet been adequately implemented. It is recommended to increase the visibility of the issue of prostitution and the work that social work is already doing in this area, especially in society, and to strive to overcome the political divide on the subject of prostitution within social work.
