Summary

Christiane Gottschalk discusses human rights in contexts with sexual aggression against women in armed conflicts and, to a lesser degree, without armed conflicts. She chooses 3 examples of conflicts to prove her evidence that human rights can indeed be harmed (from a philosophical view) and that the damage done may be aimed at the core of the self. However, Gottschalk argues from a heteronormative way: only women are the victims, only men are conceptualized as perpetrators. This view completely excludes different events thus contributing not only to persisting heteronormativity but also to gendered perspectives of human rights.
