Summary
In eight articles presents this book the heterogeneity of being a child in the city, above all in the big city. And the articles discover the difficulties of growing up in a modern society. And the city is the mirror of the modern society with its ambivalences, contradictions, with its heterogeneity of lifestyles in an urban context.
The background, against the authors argue is the question, how important education as a frame condition of growing up in the city is. A central condition of a successful childhood in the city – so the authors – is education. Important is formal qualification by school, but important is too informal learning “by life“ in an urban context. The question, which frame condition the city as a specific socio-structural context with a specific social, economic and cultural dynamic for the development of education processes is, is not in all articles a central interest.
