Summary

This book collects the most important theoretical and analytical approaches of the contemporary urban research. In the articles we find a description of the biography of the authors, an analysis of his or her oeuvre and a discussion of the reception of this oeuvre regarding its importance. The editor has the intention to draw the attention to specific discourses, in which we have to deal with ambivalences and contradictions since Max Weber, Immanuel Kant and Georg Simmel. The question, what a city should be, must always be answered new. This book is more than an analysis of the city from several perspectives. It is a request for open discourses – open like cities should be with all the consequences for an urban lifestyle.
