Summary
This comprehensibly written book takes up a complex socially relevant topic. Privacy is no longer a prerequisite for individual autonomy in the age of networked systems. Thanks to digital technologies, the parameters of individual privacy have changed noticeably. Restrictions on privacy through surveillance, collection and storage of data are declared as a security measure. As the empirical study shows, there is still a need for privacy. The book not only provides information, but also encourages an in-depth examination of the question of how much autonomy the digital society gives the individual, to what extent one is prepared to give up social participation or to come to terms with a post-privacy society. It is a book that inspires everyone – not just professionals – to reflect on the value of privacy and to act accordingly.
