Summary
In history of mankind, there have been various conceptions of man which yielded manifold practical ways of life. Upon these conceptions „which man makes of himself“ (13), psychological research is founded and withal the possibility for change in science. Galliker presents a panorama of diversity from these conceptions of man that he encountered in classical literature of cultural history. In doing so, the prime concern of the literature study is to trace psychology even before its establishment as an experimental science. Not without standing up for a side, he accomplishes to display the connection between chronological, cultural and psychological history.
