Hillert, Koch and Lehr are specialists in the phenomena of burnout and chronic occupational stress. With this guide, the authors begin a tradition of their own scientific discussions with this topic. Based on the model of the „occupational gratification crisis“ (Siegrist, 2015), the authors set the framework with a clear scientific input on burnout / stress and offer various strategies for dealing with occupational stress. Starting point is the level of scientific knowledge, substantiated with statistics, graphics and study results. Case studies show the concrete effects of stress on the individual which are summarized in mnemotechnic verses. Based on the „gratification-crisis“ the „sides“ of occupational stress, triggers and own shares are being discussed. With questions, exercises and worksheets the authors encourage their readers to engage with their own stressful life. Everyone finds out for themselves what works best for them. Especially in the practical part, the deep understanding and extensive experience of Hillert / Koch / Lehr in working with stress-damaged people is confirmed. For this reason, too, every (future) working person can and should use the book as a working basis. Therefore, there is no reason to ignore this textbook.

The book is a highlight among the „Guidebooks for people concerned and relatives“. This subtitle is a gross understatement as the authors convey ready-to-use knowledge, give facts about professional stress and show how to deal with it. A textbook almost in paperback format. Therefore, this „guide“ belongs in the bookshelf of public as well as professional libraries, but also as a good reading and manual in a study backpack or work bag. An inspiring „booklet“!
