Discussion
Wolf-Arehult/ Beckmann begin the training manual with a pointed introduction to mindfulness. However, the emphasis is on the description of the theoretical basis of the manual and the presentation of the training units, with addressing these in depth. In terms of mindfulness, attention is directed to the listed processes, contents, comments, exercises, etc. Hints, testimonials and tips for the trainers are a very helpful supplement to the training instructions. The authors worked out an excellent workbook for mindfulness training with psychiatric patients. First and foremost, the target group includes experienced psychiatric workers who would like to offer mindfulness training. In addition to the psychotherapy of borderline disorder according to Linehan, the authors were able to achieve positive effects of mindfulness training in other psychiatric areas. As a bonus, the authors provide work and online material. For professionals, this textbook offers a ready-to-use training guide and allows a quick introduction to the training practice.
Conclusion
An excellent training instruction for working with diseased people in the field of psychiatry. However, it is a pity that the subtitle of the book limits the target audience to psychiatric patients. This manual not only offers concrete instructions, but also a wealth of exercises for a wide range of mindfulness- users. Therefore, this book is recommended for a large group of training volunteers. Mindfulness trainers in the psychiatric setting as well as trainers in general and laypersons should read and practice this textbook. A book for (almost) everyone!
