Discussion

The focus of all articles is on aspects of digitization in the healthcare sector. The authors are discussing the benefits of digitization from different perspectives for participants as well as for patients. The authors deal critically with immature technical requirements. Besides, they call for a greater responsibility that lies within the politics related to the process of digitization. A joint study by the health insurance „DAK-Gesundheit“ and the newspaper „Ärzte Zeitung“ captures the thoughts of doctors on digitization in the healthcare sector and is regarded as the starting point of the articles. The results of the study are put in front. Statements of other participants working with digital health applications complement them. Despite from the more statistic- and technology-oriented articles it can be stated as a conclusion for the reader: digitization accelerates the flow of information, which helps to tailor the treatment to the needs of the individual. Additionally, the saving of time benefits the doctor-patient-interaction. Schachinger et al. position themselves with these basic ideas for the use of digitization, which is committed to human and not to economy. It remains to be hoped that healthcare decision makers in particular will read this book and internalize their thoughts.

Conclusion

This collection is more than just putting together thematic articles about digitization in health care. Not only the results of the study will be presented and discussed, but also the advantages and dangers of digitization in health care will be presented in detail. Overall, this book is a specialized book for a select readership. However, if users, patient representatives and decision-makers from the healthcare sector use the articles as an opportunity for a deeper analysis of the current problem the goal has been reached
