Summary

The book is convincing due to the numerous studies with which Bonanno supplements the conventional view in psychotraumatology, but also questions it. He provokes and challenges us to rethink. Bonanno thus counters the trend of overly pathologizing people who have been through traumatic events with a salutogenetic approach that relies on people's self-healing powers. He emphasizes the amazing ability of people to withstand and grow from the most severe traumatic stress through resilience. A thoroughly worthwhile book.
