Summary

Sunil Amrith's book on 500 years of global environmental history, from Western colonialism to today's forms of ecological inequality, is convincing in its depiction of the connection between the destruction of nature and social inequality. Even if one does not share the author's optimism in the power of environmental and climate movements, one must hope that, with regard to Europe and global climate policy, it will be possible to combine effective measures to reduce CO₂emissions with aid for low-income groups and compensation for poor countries.
