Summary

*The Tyranny of Equality* is an accessible and incisive essay that raises important questions about the limits of academic compensation and the significance of achievement. Its strength lies in its critique of simplistic assumptions about equality and causality; its weakness lies in its own oversimplification and in paying too little attention to perspectives relating to human rights, inclusive education and social pedagogy. The introductory trigger warning can ultimately be turned against the text itself: anyone who wishes to question others’ aspirations for the world must also be prepared to scrutinise their own aspirations for the world.
